Outline of FORUM8 Rally Japan 2024 announced

FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) Round 13, Japan
21 (Thu) – 24 (Sun) November, Aichi and Gifu.

FORUM8 Rally Japan 2024, the final round of the 2024 series of the FIA World Rally Championship, will be held in Japan again this year from 21 (Thu) to 24 (Sun) November in Aichi and Gifu prefecture.

This will be the third consecutive year that the event will be held in Aichi and Gifu, and following on from last year’s event, it will be held under the event concept of “ENJOY! RALLY JAPAN”. The world’s top-level teams and drivers will compete at full speed on closed public roads that will test the very limits of what is possible with vehicle control. On the track set up in Toyota Stadium, which is a special feature of the event, the stage will be held in a duel format.

The host region has many mountainous areas rich in nature, a variety of roads suitable for rallies and a thriving automobile industry. In addition to these regional characteristics, the event will also make use of the experience of hosting international sporting events such as the Rugby World Cup and domestic rally competitions to ensure that the event is run in an environmentally friendly manner.

Toyota Stadium, the base of the rally, will also be the venue for entertainment shows such as freestyle motocross (FMX) and live artists, track walks and rally car rides, as well as acrobatic flights by the Blue Impulse aerobatic demonstration team, and other events besides watching the rally. The four days of the rally will not only be a great opportunity for rally fans, but also for first-time rally spectators and families to enjoy themselves.

Competition aims

1 A safe and secure rally for all competitors and spectators

2 Carry out an event that emphasises the perspective of rally and motorsport fans

3 Realise a sustainable event that contributes to the future

Rally concept

Following on from last year’s event, under the slogan ‘Enjoy! Rally Japan’, the aim is to create an environmentally friendly event where rally fans, participating teams and the host venue can enjoy the attractions of rallying to the fullest. As for the competition, in addition to the intensity of the rally and the courses in mountainous areas where you can experience the charm of Japanese autumn leaves, to enable more fans to watch the rally, the Toyota Stadium and Okazaki Central General Park will also be part of the course this year.

In addition, the project will promote the appeal of rallying in Japan and organise content that can be fully enjoyed by those new to rallying, and to create a rally that can be enjoyed by the whole family, from children to adults.

Key visuals

The key visual for the event was a design incorporating the authenticity that is the real appeal of rallying, as well as Japanese traditions and the landscape.

The colour scheme is based on indigo, a traditional Japanese colour and one that is popular overseas under the nickname ‘Japan blue’, which is friendly to all nationalities.

The design also expresses the Japanese season with orange mountains and autumn leaves, and blends the silhouettes of the host prefectures ‘Aichi’ and ‘Gifu’ into the forest roads, allowing visitors to enjoy the event even before it takes place.

Environmentally friendly management

The FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
In the World Rally Championship, hybrid vehicles and synthetic fuels (non-fossil fuels) were introduced from 2022, and sustainable motorsport is a global trend.
Since last year, Rally Japan has been implementing environmentally friendly initiatives under the concept of ‘WITH EARTH’. As a result, in February this year, Rally Japan was awarded the highest rank of three stars in the FIA Environmental Certification Programme*.

This year, we will continue to recognise the need for environmental protection, work to understand and minimise our environmental impact in order to fulfil our responsibilities, share our environmental values with all concerned parties, strive to raise awareness, and aim to operate the rally in an environmentally sustainable manner.

The purpose is to assess 17 sections, including ‘environmental management’, ‘energy use’, ‘waste management’, etc., and rate them in three levels.
